Turbines & Tumbleweeds RC Fly-In

As a joint initiative between the City of Sweetwater and the Abilene RC Society, Turbines & Tumbleweeds was launched in 2024 as an opportunity for RC Jet Pilots to get together in the big, open skies of West Texas and share their enthusiasm of high-end model aviation with the community.

And, what better place than an airfield with such a rich history in aviation. Avenger Field was the primary training grounds for the Women Air Service Pilots of WWII and is home to the National WASP Museum. Come for the flying venue, tour the museum and enjoy the company and West Texas Sunsets

Join us for the 2nd year of RC Turbine Jet Action at the historic Avenger Field in Sweetwater, Tx. Sponsored by the Abilene RC Society and the City of Sweetwater. Experience Three Days of flying at a full scale facility, visit the WASP Museum, enjoy some BBQ and make new friends.

Saturday activities will include public raffle drawings (we have already secured several RTF planes to raffle to the public) as well as a Frequent Flyer pilot raffle, and awards for the likes Best Sport Jet, Best Scale Jet and more.
