WASP Honor Wall

Note: Data above from WASP Byrd Howell Granger's book "On Final Approach"

A few years into WWII, at a time when very few women even had a driver's license, more than 25,000 women applied (and approximately 1,800 were accepted) to serve their country as Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP).

The WASP played a vital role in the war effort by flying planes from factories to airbases, towing targets for anti-aircraft training, test-piloting experimental aircraft, and training male pilots.

And they were the only unit that flew all 77 types of aircraft in the Army Air Corp arsenal – from bombers like the B-24 to fighters like the P-51 Mustang - and collectively flew over 60 million miles!

They were fearless and would fly anything, even the planes male pilots didn't believe were actually airworthy.  These courageous "Fly Girls" risked everything and flew above and beyond to serve their country...

...and this "WASP Honor Wall" pays homage to the 38 "Fly Girls" who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of their country.
