Homecoming 2008
May 24th, 2008Join us Saturday, May 24, 2008, for our annual Open House and Barbecue Dinner. Open House begins at 10:00 a.m. with WASP movies, activities for students, and displays by living historians and collectors Pam and Alan Burkholder and the AAF Living History Group. Hear Dawn Letson, Coordinator of Special Collections at Texas Woman’s University tell about the relationship between the WASP and the people of Sweetwater at 11:00. At noon hear WASP Betty Jo Reed tell about her adventures as a trainee. Evening event speaker is Major Nicole Malachowski, USAF, the first female Thunderbird pilot. The barbecue dinner begins at 7 p.m. followed by a Memorial Flag Ceremony at sunset. Big Band music provided by the Sweetwater Municipal Band (a.k.a Billy Weems and His Band of Dreams) will follow. Dance or dream the night away listening to the big band tunes of the 1940s. Enjoy soloist Lori Ortega and a special appearance by “the Andrews Sisters.”
Dinner is $10 for WASP, $20 for museum members, and $25 for non-members. You may send dinner reservations with your check payable to the National WASP WWII Museum, P.O. Box 456, Sweetwater, Texas 79556. Come in period costume if you like!
