Job Opening:

Accountant


The accountant is an integral part of the team, responsible for recording financial transactions in accounting journals and/or software from such sources as invoices and receipts. The accountant reconciles accounts and creates financial documents and reports. Tracking all financial records is critical to the transparency and governance of the Museum.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Receives, approves and investigates source invoices
• Transfers data from financial transactions and posts in general ledger
• Maintains the chart of accounts
• Reconcile and balance all accounts
• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Prepares schedules, financial statements and reports with financial analysis
• Prepares and processes checks, receipts, payments and bank deposits
• Calculate and prepare tax payments and documents including 1099s and W-2s
• Communicates with guests/donors, Museum staff (paid & unpaid), vendors and banking contacts
• Prepare and processes payroll
• Maintain petty cash fund
• Maintain internal control systems and comply with reporting requirements
• Maintain filing and transactions systems, electronically and paper, to support financial records
• Assist with budget, tax return and audit preparation
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
• At least 2 years of bookkeeping or similar business experience required including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger and financial reports; experience in a nonprofit a plus
• Degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field preferred
• Knowledge of bookkeeping, generally accepted accounting principles and procedures, and relevant legislative and regulatory requirements
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and accounting software packages; Quickbooks a plus
• Working knowledge of data management and financial data analysis
• Must have strong communications, interpersonal and guest service skills across diverse audiences
• Must be able to keep relevant matters and financial information strictly confidential
• Ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism
• Ability to operate calculator, computer and other general office equipment
• Must be highly organized, detail oriented and deadline-conscious

This hourly full-time position works 40 hours per week on-site and maintains a regular business hours schedule. A flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays is necessary from time to time to address the museum’s needs.
